When Home doesn’t Feel like Home Anymore

So like I said, I’m back in the states now, starting the next chapter, whatever that’s supposed to mean. As an expat one of the hardest things in readjusting to American culture and coming home is this overarching feeling of “otherness”.  For the last month, I’ve been back in my hometown, the place I grew…

Interview #1 – North Philadelphia

I should have known that Such&Such Promotion Company was not the place for me when after my hour and a half drive to Philly I couldn’t find the place. Sure, Google maps took me straight to the address, a large mostly enclosed strip-mall. I even managed to find the suite number 116 like the email…

Home for Good – Re-adjusting

So I am back in the states, for good, or at least the foreseeable future, and trying to answer the question – “Where do I go from here?” In the last month and a half being home, I have been to eight states, visited a ton of friends, spent countless hours searching job sites on…

Florida!!!

Somehow I managed to talk my mom into a “Girls Only” trip to Florida this month while I’m home.  Here’s our adventure…

Surprise! Coming home for Christmas

So this year I decided to surprise my parents with a trip home for Christmas.  They were so excited and I have had a fantastic time in the states over the last month.  I will be returning to China on 1/18/2016.  Check out the video, it’s a good one.

Halloween is coming

With Halloween less than a week away, I have been sharing some Halloween traditions with my classes this week. We dressed up in full costumes (and yes, you will get to see mine in this video.  Please don’t laugh too hard.)  In addition, two of the girls carved pumpkins for me, for the first time…

Fall Semester is flying by…

Happiness Project – Week 1

This semester is in full swing, and my students recently completed a project entitled “What makes you happy – Sharing one minute of your world.”  I would love to spend the next few weeks sharing some of their video’s with you. Here is the first one from a girl named Guistar.

Taking a Bus in China

Presented By: Kaila Cox (guest blogger) Please take a look at this video by a very dear friend of mine, Kaila Cox.  She will show you a little about what it’s like getting around in China on the bus.  Unlike in America where one can just hop in the car and pop over at someone’s…

What to Pack for China

It’s my 3rd year returning to China and I’m getting to be a pro when it comes to packing.  Take a look at some of my must-have items and things that you may not want to bring to China with you.  This post is a little longer than most but if you make it to…

God Bless the USA

I am so glad to be back in America this summer.  My church family and friends in Louisville, KY have been taking good care of me and I have had some amazing american foods this week!  Thank you all for your warm hospitality and generosity. As you know I am staying at my current University…

Plans for Next Year

Just wanted to let everyone know I will be coming home to Baltimore on July 1, and will be home for about 7 weeks.  I am so excited to see all of you.  I am terribly homesick for american food, it’s ridiculous. I love you all!  See you soon.
