Dragon Boat Festival – 端午节

Today was Dragon Boat Festival.  I’m not really sure what you are supposed to do for this festival… For me it just meant I had the day off from school and went out with some friends.

Anna is a good friend who is a senior at my school and invited me out for a picnic and day of fun.  We walked around a lake on the outside of town.  The sky was actually blue today.  I got to see a couple of peacocks and geese near the water, and we did silly things like play hide-and-seek.  I introduced the game Freeze Tag to them and had so much fun.  After hanging out in the park for a couple hours, Ashley and Simon invited me back to their home for lunch.

I had my first experience with Zongzi, a sticky-rice  dish wrapped in bamboo leaves.  There are different varieties and flavors, I tried the Beef 牛肉 and one with a sweet red bean mixture in the center.

All in all, it was a great day spent with some really nice brothers and sisters.  I am so glad I had the opportunity to share a traditional Chinese holiday with them.
