Beijing – Day 4
It’s our last day in Beijing, and it’s been a lot of fun. I am so thankful for Lana, Samuel and Fayfay that have showed us around the city for the last few days and made this trip so memorable for me.
This morning we went to the Pearl Market where Lana and Samuel ruthlessly haggled down the shopkeepers prices and scored me a ton of great souvenirs for super cheap prices. I would love to tell you more, but it’s a secret… you will have to find out when I bring everything home this summer, I don’t want to ruin the surprise.
After a successful morning shopping, Phred had to head on to the train station – by himself. Thankfully he has a much better sense of direction than I do, and a map of the Subway stations, courtesy of Lana.
For the rest of the afternoon, I wandered around the 798 Art Zone. It is a walking street full of galleries, coffee shops, and general artsy stuff. It is also the only place in Beijing that I saw graffiti, and it had a sense of flare that was really cool.
So around 4:00 I get a text from Phred saying he has missed his train home, and I should leave immediately to head to the train station. We packed everything up and headed to the subway, where I still managed to miss my train home, and had to catch an overnight, slow train that took 12 hours to reach Wuhan.
Phred and I do not have good luck with trains, so the moral of the story I think is that if you are good at catching a train, please vollenteer to come on my next trip with me, and keep me on time. This is ridiculous.
